Double Standard

A news snippet:
SPOKANE, Wash. - Prosecutors have rejected an effort to recall Mayor James West, who has been accused of offering city jobs to men he met in gay online chat rooms, officials said Monday.
...
The 54-year-old mayor went on temporary leave May 9 to prepare to defend himself against allegations printed in The Spokesman-Review that he offered city jobs to young men he met online and sexually abused two boys decades ago as a Boy Scout leader.
I just find it interesting that it's generally the very same people who (rightly) criticize the Catholic church for not taking enough care to prevent known gay priests with a penchant for teens from being around kids, who then turn around and blast the Boy Scouts for trying to (responsibly and reasonably) pre-empt such a disaster by standing firmly against gay scout leaders.

Yet many think somehow the "right" for everyone to be included in scouts trumps any potential danger, even given the empirical evidence; the inevitable consequences against the innocent are apparently a price they are willing, even eager, to pay, to show how "tolerant" they are.

Which is selfish narcissism at its worst.

Bugs me.
